I make art because I enjoy the process of creativity. From coming up with different ideas,
accurately representing it on the paper, and making a complete art piece is such an honorable process that
always attracts me and it keeps me on continue making more pieces. I get my inspirations everywhere.
Just like minds can not stop thinking, I would look at my surroundings and something would always come
up to inspire me to make a new piece of art. My hobbies also act as a source of inspiration. I love
watching animated cartoons and listening to music. I get inspired by the anime that I watch, they usually
incorporated different elements of art. Some well-produced animations are a great source of inspiration.
My dream is to major in illustration and animation so it does not only require drawing skills, but more the
ability to tell a story through my own hand. Creating a story is easy but creating an interesting story is
what really catches the audience's attention. For example, talking animals are always more interesting
than talking humans; and a giant's adventure who is accompanied by a small guy is always more
interesting than two forty-year- old guy's journey to somewhere. This is the charisma of animated films
because it is designed to attract the audience by its unique characters and the juxtaposition between the
settings and characters. The music that I listen to is mostly K-Pop. K-Pop is largely known for its colorful
music videos and creative process that is shown through the video. I always get inspirations from the
music videos for my sketchbook and some illustration pieces.
My strength as an artist is that I like to open up my mind, try different styles and take on difficult
challenges in order to explore my own style and challenge myself as an artist. Looking at my portfolio, I
have tried a lot of different materials in my paintings. I am currently working with gouche and oil paint,
which are two materials that I have never worked with before. It is interesting to always take on the
challenge and explore new materials because I would mostly likely end up liking everything I have tried.
My favorite material to work with would be ink, acrylic, and markers. These materials allow me to work
with great details and is rather easy to control and work with. In my portfolio, I have mostly acrylic
paintings, some marker and ink, and graphite. I started out with doing only graphite drawings because
Chinese art teachers believe in a strong basic skills is the most important. I use acrylic to do my
illustration pieces, which are most likely to be my portfolio pieces. I use acrylic, ink, watercolor, and
marker in my sketchbook and sometimes collages.
I am interested in all types of arts. As I just started my art career, I am eager to try all kinds of
different materials and styles. I am looking forward to do more projects as I expect to take on more
challenge as an artist and conquer the difficulties in my own artistic ways.
